First Female-Led Government in DRC: A 100-Day Review
In a historic move, Prime Minister Judith Suminwa Tuluka leads the first female-led government in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) with a team of 54 members, including 18 women. The government’s focus is on six pillars: national economy, security, spatial planning, social well-being, ecosystem management, and skill development.
Despite being in office for just over three months, the government has already implemented measures to boost the economy and enhance purchasing power. Tuluka aims for an ambitious investment programme of nearly US$93bn over the next five years to fulfill President Felix Tshisekedi’s promises.
However, opposition parties criticize the government for not delivering on its promises and point out social and economic challenges. Despite concerns, there is hope for peace in conflict-ridden eastern Congo, with ongoing discussions and agreements between Congo and Rwanda.
As the government navigates challenges, civil society remains vigilant to ensure aid transparency and effective governance. While the road ahead may be challenging, many Congolese are hopeful that Suminwa Tuluka’s leadership will bring positive change.
