Tragedy struck in central Gaza as the Gaza Civil Defense Directorate reported that at least 17 people, including women and children, were killed in an Israeli missile strike on Saturday. Among the victims were eight children, and over 30 others were wounded with some still missing, according to Civil Defense spokesman Mahmoud Basal.
Basal mentioned that the strike hit Al-Zaytoun School, a shelter for thousands of displaced people from Al-Zaytoun neighborhood in southeast Gaza City. On the other hand, the Israel Defense Forces stated that they targeted a school compound in central Gaza being used by Hamas as a command center.
The IDF asserted that their aircraft conducted a precise strike on terrorists operating inside the Hamas command and control center, taking measures to avoid civilian casualties. The situation highlights the ongoing conflict in the region and the devastating impact it has on innocent civilians caught in the crossfire.
