Amnesty International has called for a thorough investigation into the recent killings of blasphemy suspects in Sindh and Balochistan by police. The incidents involved the shooting of Abdul Ali in Quetta and Umerkot-based doctor Shah Nawaz Kunhbar in Mirpurkhas. Amnesty emphasized the need for fair trials and the repeal of blasphemy laws in Pakistan.
The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan reported four deaths related to blasphemy accusations since May. In response, 10 police officials, including DIG and SSP of Mirpurkhas, were suspended. Additionally, a bail plea was filed for the Quetta cop involved in the incident.
Dr. Kunhbar’s family demanded justice and a judicial inquiry. Civil society groups condemned the killings, calling for action from government officials. They also criticized the police handling of the situation and demanded accountability.
The incidents have sparked outrage and demands for justice, with calls for international intervention and repercussions for those involved in the extrajudicial killings.
