Ajit Doval missing from Modi-Biden meeting, says NSA

The absence of National Security Advisor Ajit Doval from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent meeting with US President Joe Biden has sparked speculation and raised eyebrows. While counterparts like Jake Sullivan were present, Doval’s name was notably missing from the list of Indian delegates provided by the White House. This fueled rumors about his whereabouts and activities.

Meanwhile, a Canadian American citizen and leader of a Khalistani organization has filed a lawsuit against the Indian government, Doval, and other officials for allegedly conspiring to assassinate him. The court has summoned the accused parties, but New Delhi has dismissed the claims as baseless and highlighted the plaintiff’s extremist background.

Sources suggest that Doval’s absence from the US trip was due to ongoing Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. Despite the controversies, the meeting between Modi and Biden proceeded with other officials like External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in attendance.

Published on 21 September 2024, this development adds intrigue to the already complex relations between India and the US.
