Heavy Rainfall Across the Country Prompts Emergency Response from Prime Minister Han Duck-soo

As heavy rainfall wreaks havoc nationwide, Prime Minister Han Duck-soo has urgently directed relevant ministries and local governments to prepare thoroughly and expedite recovery efforts.

On the 21st, Prime Minister Han stated, “Local governments should mobilize all administrative resources to block residents’ entry into areas prone to landslides and collapses, as well as conduct thorough surveillance. In case of expected damages, cooperate with police and firefighters to evacuate residents preemptively.”

Furthermore, he emphasized the continuous deployment of officials in areas at risk of flooding due to embankment and reservoir collapses until the rain subsides. Han instructed, “For areas affected by heavy rainfall, deploy all available equipment and personnel for swift emergency recovery to minimize resident inconvenience and ensure worker safety during facility restoration.”

Typhoon “Chanthu” has already caused significant damage, leading to the evacuation of 506 people in the southern region as of 4 a.m., with multiple cases of flooded homes and businesses reported. Thankfully, no casualties have been reported thus far.
