US ceases cease-fire hopes as Biden’s term ends

Senior U.S. officials admit that a cease-fire agreement between Israel and Hamas is unlikely before President Biden’s term ends. The Wall Street Journal reports that despite this, the Biden administration will continue efforts to broker a deal to end the conflict in Gaza and ease tensions with Hezbollah in Lebanon.

The officials cite challenges, particularly the issue of Palestinian prisoners and the recent attacks on Hezbollah agents, as obstacles to reaching an agreement. The U.S. is still committed to securing the release of hostages and preventing further escalation.

Tensions have escalated between Israel and Hezbollah following explosions in Lebanon, with both sides blaming each other. Amidst this, Israel has been engaged in a deadly conflict with Hamas in Gaza, resulting in casualties on both sides.

Despite the challenges, the U.S. remains dedicated to diplomatic efforts to bring peace to the region. The situation remains tense, with no immediate resolution in sight.
