US National Endowment for Democracy (NED) Scheme Exposed in Anti-Iran Campaign
A recent report from The Grayzone has uncovered a covert plan by the US National Endowment for Democracy (NED) to funnel government resources into an anti-Iran campaign following the 2022 foreign-backed riots. The NED sought to direct US State Department resources towards the Iran Freedom Coalition, consisting of pro-Western Iranian figures and US neoconservative operatives.
Led by longtime NED director, Carl Gershman, the initiative aimed to impose an “exiled leadership” on Iran’s opposition. Key figures involved included William Kristol, advocating military action against Iran, and Joshua Muravchik, a staunch supporter of Israel’s Likud Party.
The report revealed that the campaign’s Iranian members had ties to US government-sponsored cultural figures and interventionist Western think tanks. The riots in Iran were sparked by the death of Mahsa Amini, wrongly attributed to police brutality.
The revelation underscores how foreign powers exploited the unrest in Iran for their own political agenda, fueling violence and instability in the region.
