WASHINGTON – A funding shortfall of $17 billion is projected for the US Navy’s Virginia-class attack submarines over the next six years, according to House Defense Subcommittee Chairman Ken Calvert.
Calvert stated, “There is a projected $17 billion shortfall in the Virginia-class program alone over the next six years.” He also raised concerns about persistent delays and cost overruns in the Navy’s shipbuilding program.
Calvert criticized the Navy’s system for metrics and reporting, calling it flawed and potentially misleading.
