Uror and Greater Pibor renew commitment to peacefully coexist

A recent one-day retreat in Yuai town of Jonglei State’s Uror County brought representatives from Lou Nuer and Murle communities together to reaffirm their commitment to peaceful coexistence. Uror County commissioner James Gatkhor Gatluak organized the gathering, which included officials from the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) and discussed strategies to prevent violence between the two groups during the upcoming dry season.

The meeting was a follow-up to the 2021 Pieri Peace Conference, where the recommendation for exchange visits was made to foster understanding and reduce conflict. Both sides agreed to halt youth mobilization efforts and cattle rustling activities that have fueled tensions in the region.

James Nyicho Pirya, a peace commissioner from GPAA, emphasized the importance of unity and peace-building efforts in the face of prolonged suffering in Greater Jonglei. The leaders pledged to work together to reunite abductees with their families and address longstanding challenges to create a more peaceful environment for all communities.
