A recent incident at the U.S.-Mexico border shocked authorities as an illegal immigrant bit a Border Patrol agent in the face while being apprehended near Sunland Park, New Mexico. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) confirmed the attack, with one individual arrested for assault and the injured agent taken to a hospital for evaluation.
The assailant, part of a group of illegal immigrants, managed to flee back to Mexico along with three others. CBP highlighted the rising danger faced by Border Patrol agents, with 66 assaults reported this fiscal year in the El Paso sector alone.
Border security issues are at the forefront of the 2024 presidential race, with the Biden administration pushing for enhanced measures and bipartisan solutions to address the ongoing crisis. Republicans blame policy changes for the surge in migrants, while CBP urges for better protection for its agents.
