UK Foreign Minister Responds to Netanyahu’s Criticism of Labour Government
In a recent interview with Maariv, UK Foreign Minister David Lammy addressed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s criticism of the Labour government’s stance on Israel. Netanyahu had previously claimed that the UK government was sending mixed messages regarding Israel’s right to defend itself.
Lammy emphasized the importance of international humanitarian law and raised concerns that have not been adequately addressed by the current government. Despite these concerns, he reiterated that the UK remains a friend of Israel and is committed to its right to exist and defend itself within safe borders.
Netanyahu also criticized the British government for not contesting expected ICC arrest warrants against Israeli leaders for alleged war crimes in Gaza. He argued that such warrants would compromise the ability of democracies to fight terrorism and accused the ICC prosecutor of antisemitism.
In conclusion, Netanyahu stated, “The principle is simple: justice for all nations except the Jews.”
