Supreme Court excludes Green Party candidate Jill Stein from Nevada ballot

The Supreme Court has denied an emergency appeal from Nevada’s Green Party to have presidential candidate Jill Stein included on the state’s ballot, a decision that allows ballot preparation to proceed without including Green Party candidates.

This ruling is a win for Democrats in Nevada, who had contested the Green Party’s presence on the ballot due to the state’s history of close races. In the 2020 election, President Joe Biden narrowly defeated former President Donald Trump by less than 35,000 votes in Nevada.

After the Green Party gathered enough signatures for Stein to be included on the ballot, the state’s Democratic Party filed a lawsuit to remove her. While a lower state court sided with Stein, the state Supreme Court ruled that the petition forms were flawed.

Represented by Trump ally Jay Sekulow, the Green Party fought the decision at the Supreme Court. Meanwhile, a network of Republican operatives is working nationwide to support third-party candidates like Stein, potentially diverting votes away from Democratic nominee Vice President Kamala Harris.
