Niger Delta youths, represented by the South-South Youths Initiative, are advocating for a peaceful local government council poll in Rivers State on 5 October 2024. They are urging Governor Siminialayi Fubara to provide operational vehicles to the NSCDC for enhanced security during the election. The SSYI President, Imeabe Oscar, emphasized the need for peaceful conduct during the election period and called on all parties to cooperate.
Oscar criticized the political system in Rivers State, urging the governor to prioritize governance over politics for the state’s advancement. He highlighted the need for elected officers at the grassroots level to drive development. Oscar also condemned the self-serving behaviors of outgoing Caretaker Committee Chairmen and advised potential chairmen to focus on community development.
He urged stakeholders to unite for the progress of Rivers State, emphasizing the importance of economic growth and efficient operations at seaports and airports. Oscar stressed the need to move away from a reputation of violence and poor politics towards a peaceful and prosperous future for the state.
