The Land Development Agency has launched its first housing project directly developed on State land, the Shanganagh Castle project in Shankill, Co Dublin. The scheme will include a total of 597 housing units, with the first phase offering 51 affordable purchase houses, 195 cost rental apartments, and 35 social apartments.
Prices for affordable purchase homes will start at €344,600, with the local authority retaining a stake in the home to lower upfront costs. Rents for cost rental apartments will begin at €1,175. Eligible buyers can apply for the houses on 9 October, while applications for the apartments will open later this year. The remaining homes will be made available in two subsequent phases in 2025.
This project is part of a larger pipeline of around 20 housing projects to be completed by the Land Development Agency on State-owned land. The agency aims to provide high-quality, energy-efficient homes targeting the middle income market. This initiative signifies the State’s direct involvement in housing delivery and aims to address the housing crisis in the country.
