Lebanon’s healthcare sector faced a monumental challenge after a string of shocking attacks by Israel left thousands injured and in need of urgent medical care. Hospitals already struggling due to economic and political crises were pushed to their limits as medical staff worked grueling shifts and performed surgeries through consecutive nights.
Despite the overwhelming pressure, the sector sprang into action, with hospitals accommodating the majority of patients and health experts praising the preparedness of the medical community. However, sustaining this level of care in the long term is a concern, as resources are stretched thin.
Health workers, like ophthalmologist Ellyas Jarada, continue to work tirelessly, but the strain on the sector remains high. As the crisis unfolds, the need for ongoing support and resources becomes increasingly vital. Lebanon’s healthcare system has proven its resilience in the face of adversity, but it will require sustained assistance to weather the challenges ahead.
