Kano State government has partnered with the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change to attract $23.5 million worth of investment in the energy sector. The initiative, known as Governor Initiative to Energise the Economy of Kano State (GEEKS) programme, aims to reform energy supply to boost industrialization and economic growth in the state.
During the 18th Executive Council meeting, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf commended the team for their well-articulated blueprint for the GEEKS programme. The initiative will focus on strategic planning for state electricity market development and universal access to electricity for commercial and industrial activities.
The program will also transition the transportation sector to electric-powered vehicles and promote the use of renewable energy in agriculture and healthcare. The initiative is expected to attract significant investments, create over 1 million jobs, and drive economic growth in Kano State.
With the support of the Tony Blair Institute, Governor Yusuf is committed to leveraging resources to catalyze private sector investments and foster development in the state.
