The Iranian Foreign Ministry summoned the embassy of Afghanistan’s caretaker after the Taliban representative disrespected Iran’s national anthem at the 38th International Islamic Unity Conference in Tehran. The incident was deemed as unconventional and unacceptable by the Iranian authorities, who expressed a strong protest at the disrespectful behavior.
The director general of the Iranian Foreign Ministry emphasized the importance of respecting diplomatic norms and international etiquette, highlighting the need for guests to show courtesy to their hosts. He stated that such actions go against the spirit of participation in the Islamic Unity Conference.
In response, the Afghan embassy’s caretaker reaffirmed Afghanistan’s respect for Iran and clarified that the disrespectful act was a personal action that did not reflect the views of the Afghan government. He assured that Iran’s protest would be promptly conveyed to Kabul.
