In a shocking turn of events, Nesher Police officers conducted a manhunt for a suspect responsible for a series of arson attacks in the Carmel forests. Roads were closed as police pursued a suspicious vehicle leaving the Upper Carmel, ultimately leading to the arrest of a surprising suspect – a 60-year-old veteran doctor, Dr. Walid Bashir from Haifa.
Dr. Bashir’s vehicle was linked to the arsons, prompting his transfer to the police station for interrogation. Subsequently, his detention was extended by four days, with a district psychiatrist set to determine the need for further observation. The investigation continues as authorities suspect Dr. Bashir of additional arson attacks in the area.
Fire crews, along with other authorities, worked tirelessly to extinguish fires in Carmel Park, with Captain Yuval Barak commending the cooperation that led to rapid containment of the spread. Despite the challenges, the collaborative efforts proved successful in preserving nature and the environment.
