France’s New Cabinet Line-Up Expected to Be Unveiled Soon
According to sources at the prime minister’s office, France’s new Cabinet line-up is expected to be revealed by Sunday. Prime Minister Michel Barnier presented the new government list to President Emmanuel Macron after rounds of talks with political parties.
The list includes 16 full-fledged ministers and over 20 junior ministers. The High Authority for Transparency in Public Life will now examine the list before it is officially announced. The meeting between Barnier and Macron was described as “constructive” by the prime minister’s office.
France has been in a political deadlock for over 10 weeks, with snap parliamentary elections held in June and July. The left-wing alliance New Popular Front (NFP) won the majority of seats in the lower house of France’s National Assembly, leading to the proposal of Lucie Castets as the next prime minister.
President Macron appointed Michel Barnier, a center-right politician, as the prime minister. The National Assembly has 577 seats, and early elections were announced after the far-right National Rally (RN) won a significant portion of the vote in European Parliament elections.
