Ex-defense minister cleared of bribery, money laundering charges

[InTime News]

Former Defense Minister Giannos Papantoniou and his co-defendants were acquitted by the Court of Appeals due to lack of evidence in a money laundering case related to alleged bribery. The court dismissed charges against Papantoniou, his wife, and a businessman.

The allegations stemmed from a 2003 public contract awarded for the upgrade of Navy frigates. Despite money in bank accounts linked to bribery, the court found insufficient evidence. Papantoniou expressed gratitude for the vindication of his political efforts.
