Brazil Considers Return to Summer Daylight Saving Time
Silveira said there was no energy risk in 2024 but it was necessary to think with an eye on 2025 and 2026
Brazil’s National Electric System Operator (ONS) has recommended the implementation of a summer daylight saving time scheme as part of its contingency plan. Energy Minister Alexandre Silveira mentioned that the measure is currently being evaluated, with a decision expected in the coming days. Even if adopted, it may not last the entire summer.
Silveira emphasized the importance of long-term planning in light of Brazil’s water crisis. While there is no immediate energy risk in 2024, considerations for 2025 and 2026 are vital. The decision to reintroduce daylight saving time, revoked in 2019, will be made based on scientific data and strategic sector analysis.
