Recent explosions of pagers in Lebanon, confirmed by Al Jazeera, were found to be booby-trapped with the explosive material PETN. The explosions resulted in eight casualties and nearly 3,000 injuries among Hezbollah members in Lebanon.
Initial reports suggest that the detonations occurred in Hezbollah strongholds in Lebanon, including the south, southern suburbs of Beirut, and the Bekaa valley. The explosions, triggered by the pagers, caused injuries primarily to the individuals closest to the devices.
The explosives used in the pagers were identified as PETN, a powerful and stable explosive often used by terrorists. The pagers were sourced from Gold Apollo, a Taiwanese manufacturer, which did not respond to inquiries from Reuters.
Experts are investigating the cause of the explosions, with speculation that the devices’ batteries could have overheated or been tampered with externally. Lebanese authorities have called the blasts an ‘Israeli cyber attack,’ further complicating the situation.
The US has denied any involvement in the explosions, with ongoing investigations into the incident. Gold Apollo’s founder revealed the manufacturer of the pagers as BAC Consulting in Budapest, Hungary.
