UN committee says Israeli killings of Palestinian children unprecedented

A United Nations committee condemned Israel for egregious violations against Palestinian children, including mass killings and arbitrary detentions. Bragi Gudbrandsson, vice chair of the Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC), called these actions historically unprecedented and an extremely dark chapter. The committee expressed grave concern over the high number of children in Gaza affected by Israel’s attacks, leading to death, injury, displacement, and malnutrition. Israel denied breaching international law during UN hearings. The CRC demanded the release of arbitrarily detained Palestinian children and an end to torture and ill-treatment practices. Last week, Gaza’s health ministry listed 710 Palestinian newborns killed by Israeli forces, adding to the toll of over 16,700 children killed in attacks since last October. The International Committee of the Red Cross reported over 20,000 Palestinian children missing in Gaza due to Israeli aggression. The committee’s findings shed light on the severe humanitarian crisis affecting Palestinian children in the region.
