Clashes in Ladu Payam: SSPDF Soldier Wounded
In a surprising turn of events, clashes erupted between different units of the South Sudan’s People Defense Forces (SSPDF) in Ladu Payam of Juba County, leaving a soldier from the Military Intelligence (MI) Operations Unit wounded. The conflict arose when forces assigned to prevent land grabbing and those tasked with demolishing illegal structures on grabbed land failed to coordinate effectively.
Juba residents were awakened by gunfire in the early hours of Thursday morning, highlighting the ongoing violence in Ladu Payam due to land disputes. General Ruai of the SSPDF explained that poor coordination and possible collusion within the ranks led to the friendly fire incident.
Civil society activist, Edmund Yakani, strongly condemned the unlawful acts of land grabbers and urged the government to take action against perpetrators. The incident serves as a reminder of the challenges faced in enforcing land rights and the need for a lawful process to address these issues.
