IRC warns of acute malnutrition
FG deploys experts to mitigate recurrence
NAFDAC evacuates damaged drugs from markets
Save the Children International (SCI) has raised concerns about the displacement of over 150,000 children in Borno due to floods. This has led to the International Rescue Committee (IRC) warning of an escalating malnutrition crisis in the North East.
The Federal Government has deployed a team of experts to address the adverse effects of the disaster and prevent future occurrences. Meanwhile, NAFDAC has started evacuating damaged drugs and regulated products from Borno markets after floods ravaged the area.
SCI Country Director, Duncan Harvey, revealed that over one million people in Borno were affected by the floods, with 400,000 displaced and 300,000 seeking shelter in 26 IDP camps. With IRC conducting mass screenings and deploying resources to tackle malnutrition, the situation is being closely monitored.
As the government collaborates with various agencies to provide assistance and prevent waterborne diseases, the focus remains on safeguarding the health and well-being of the affected individuals in Maiduguri.
