Venezuelan Opposition Leader Forced to Accept Maduro Victory

Venezuelan opposition leader Edmundo Gonzalez revealed that he was pressured to sign a letter acknowledging President Nicolas Maduro’s victory in the August election. Forced into exile in Spain, Gonzalez recounted how Maduro allies coerced him into signing the document at the Spanish embassy in Caracas.

Caracas Responds

Claims made by Gonzalez were refuted by Venezuela’s Vice President Delcy Rodriguez and her brother Jorge Rodriguez, who presented the signed letter in a televised address. The situation escalated as Rodriguez warned Gonzalez of releasing incriminating audio from their meeting if he didn’t retract his statements.

Election Dispute Continues

While the United States recognizes Gonzalez as the election winner, Spain and other EU members refuse to acknowledge Maduro’s victory. International observers urge the Venezuelan government to disclose full voting results. A recent UN report highlighted increased repression by Maduro’s regime following the disputed election.

Despite conflicting accounts and international pressure, the political turmoil in Venezuela shows no signs of resolution.
