The death toll in explosions targeting pagers and handheld radios in Lebanon has risen to 37, with 2,931 injuries, Lebanese Health Minister Firas Abiad reported. Tuesday saw 12 deaths and 2,323 injuries, with 226 still hospitalized. An additional 25 deaths and 608 injuries occurred in further explosions on Wednesday.
A circular from Lebanon’s Civil Aviation Directorate has banned the transport of such devices on airlines operating out of Beirut. The recent escalation follows months of conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, with recent explosions exacerbating the tensions.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant mentioned a “new phase” in the conflict without claiming responsibility for the explosions, which were attributed to Israel by Hezbollah.
