The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) clarified their position regarding allegations made by the Nigerian Army. They stated that they have no intention of coercing Igbo individuals to resign from the Nigerian Army or other security agencies. IPOB also refuted claims by the Nigerian Army that its members abducted and assaulted a soldier sent to gather intelligence on the Biafra movement in the South-East.
In response to the Nigerian Army’s accusations, IPOB’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, dismissed the claims as propaganda and labeled them as a “self-staged crime” orchestrated by the Nigerian Army’s leadership. Powerful emphasized that the video circulating of a soldier allegedly forced to call for the resignation of Biafran soldiers was a fabricated “false flag operation” not associated with IPOB.
Powerful reiterated that IPOB advocates for voluntary resignations of Biafran individuals in Nigerian security agencies and does not condone coercion. He emphasized that IPOB operates the Eastern Security Network, a vigilant group targeting threats against their community, and does not have a standing army.
Furthermore, Powerful challenged the Nigerian Army’s call for international intervention, stating that IPOB’s actions are in accordance with international laws governing self-determination. He urged the Nigerian government to cease its persecution of IPOB members and respect their non-violent approach towards achieving their goals.
