In a recent development, Gujarat’s Forest Minister Mulubhai Bera has taken a firm stance against private portals illegally booking reservations for lion safaris and other tourist attractions at the Gir National Park. The State Human Rights Commission has also intervened, seeking clarification from the department about these unauthorized bookings.
Minister Bera emphasized that such actions constitute cybercrime and instructed officials to take immediate action. He urged the public to avoid these private portals and use the official forest department website for bookings.
The GHRC specifically questioned one individual, Vivek Tiwari, and his portal ‘Gir National Park’ for unauthorized bookings and overpriced rates during the park’s closure. The commission threatened to involve Cyber Crime authorities if explanations were not provided promptly.
This crackdown on unauthorized bookings aims to protect visitors and ensure accountability. It serves as a reminder to always use official channels for booking visits to the Gir National Park, home to the endangered Asiatic lions.
