EU leader to meet leaders from flooded nations

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is set to meet with leaders of flood-hit nations in the Polish city of Wrocław, following extreme weather and flooding across central Europe caused by Storm Boris.

At least 22 people have lost their lives due to the unprecedented heavy rainfall, prompting urgent discussions among leaders from Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia.

Von der Leyen will assess the situation in Wroclaw and discuss crisis response measures with the authorities in the affected areas. Poland has allocated 2 billion zlotys to address flood-related damages.

The Czech Republic and Hungary are also mobilizing resources to mitigate the impact of the floods, with additional funding being proposed to aid in recovery efforts.

In the face of electoral challenges and rising water levels, government officials are determined to safeguard communities and infrastructure against further devastation.

As the region grapples with the aftermath of the flooding, solidarity and support from neighboring countries and international partners are crucial in the collective response to this environmental crisis.
