EU Ambassador optimistic about continued Ukrainian defense industry support for AFU ammo supply

The European Union Ambassador to Ukraine, Katarina Mathernova, commends the use of frozen Russian assets to purchase ammunition for Ukraine’s Armed Forces from domestic defense producers. The EU recently allocated EUR 400 million from the EUR 1.4 billion of frozen Russian assets, in cooperation with Denmark, to procure ammunition for Ukraine’s defense industry through the European Peace Facility. This initiative marks a significant step in supporting Ukraine’s security and sovereignty.

Denmark’s contribution in passing funds to Ukraine’s defense industry demonstrates a commitment to strengthening Ukraine’s capabilities. Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal’s announcement of expecting $300 billion from frozen Russian assets, with an initial $50 billion to be disbursed soon, reflects continued support for Ukraine’s defense and security needs.

The practice of utilizing frozen assets to bolster Ukraine’s defense industry is a positive development, showcasing solidarity and cooperation between the EU and Ukraine. The ongoing support and future allocations indicate a lasting commitment to Ukraine’s security.
