Greece’s former Deputy Foreign Minister Yannos Kranidiotis and six others were honored for their memory by the Cultural Foundation of the Journalist Union of Athens Daily Newspapers (ESIEA) and the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Athens. Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides highlighted Kranidiotis’ foundational role in Cyprus’ EU accession, describing him as a pioneer in the nation’s European journey.
The event, attended by Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis, emphasized Kranidiotis as the mastermind behind Cyprus’ path to EU membership, paving the way for the country to join the European Union in 2004. Christodoulides reflected on Kranidiotis’ tireless efforts, stating that Cyprus’ inclusion in the EU was a testament to his diplomatic prowess and dedication.
