Bilawal confirms Justice Mansoor Ali Shah as next CJP in Pakistan

Justice Mansoor Ali Shah is expected to become the next Chief Justice of Pakistan next month, as confirmed by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari. He also expressed confidence in gaining the support of JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman for the proposed legislation on establishing “constitutional courts” outlined in the Charter of Democracy.

Bhutto-Zardari clarified that the draft amendments circulating on mainstream and social media are not authentic, emphasizing the importance of Fazl’s endorsement for the amendments to go through.

The PPP’s focus is on establishing constitutional courts rather than age-related changes, contrary to the government’s concerns. Bhutto-Zardari stressed the need for a consensus for the amendments to pass, highlighting the essential role of Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s support.

The meeting of the Peoples Lawyers Forum in Islamabad discussed the proposed constitutional amendments, including the creation of a federal constitutional court. The process may take time, but Bhutto-Zardari’s priority is achieving the party’s goals while urging swift progress.

Overall, the PPP’s strategy involves engaging with key stakeholders to navigate the complexities of judicial reforms and constitutional amendments, ultimately driving towards a more efficient and effective legal system.
