One year after Azerbaijan’s attack on Nagorno-Karabakh led to the displacement of over 100,000 people, a complaint for crimes against humanity has been filed with the International Criminal Court on behalf of two victims. The victims, former Human Rights Ombudsmen of Nagorno-Karabakh, are represented by leading international lawyers François Zimeray and Catalina de la Sota.
The complaint highlights the atrocities faced by the residents of Nagorno-Karabakh, including deprivation of food and healthcare due to a blockade, followed by a military invasion and forced displacement by Azerbaijan. Many leaders and residents who stayed behind were arrested, tortured, and cut off from their families and legal aid.
The lawyers emphasize that such forcible displacement is unjustifiable and must be condemned. They urge the international community to hold those responsible for these crimes against humanity accountable. The full complaint can be accessed here.
