In a bid to ensure food safety and hygiene, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated a floating restaurant in Gorakhpur, assuring that patrons will not be served “rotis with spit” or “Hapur-wala juice”. This move comes in the wake of recent incidents where vendors were caught spitting on food or mixing urine in fruit juice before serving.
The construction of the state-of-the-art floating restaurant, named ‘Float’, began in August 2022 and is now open to guests. With three floors and 9,600 square feet of space, the restaurant can accommodate up to 150 visitors at a time.
The government’s efforts to enhance food safety also include a mandate for food stalls and fruit vendors along Kanwar Yatra routes to display the names of shop owners. While this directive faced criticism, the government argued that it promotes transparency and helps the customers make an informed choice about the food they consume.
With the inauguration of the floating restaurant, Uttar Pradesh aims to set a new standard for food hygiene and safety, ensuring that all guests are served pure and untainted meals.
