The media reported that President Yoon Suk-yeol and his wife, Kim Geon-hee, were involved in the 2022 by-election candidate nominations, prompting criticism from lawmakers in the Democratic Party of Korea. Party leader Park Chan-dae emphasized the need for a special prosecutor to investigate Kim Geon-hee’s alleged interference in the candidate selection process, stating that such actions would constitute a clear crime.

The party’s policy chief, Jin Sung-jun, highlighted the importance of pushing through laws related to the special prosecutor, despite opposition from other parties. The Democratic Party plans to pass legislation related to the special prosecutor and regional love gift vouchers during the afternoon parliamentary session, indicating a strong resolve to address the issue.

President Yoon is currently on an official visit to the Czech Republic for nuclear power plant construction projects, accompanied by his wife, Kim Geon-hee. The Democratic Party remains committed to promoting transparency and accountability in governance, regardless of the challenges they may face.
