Social media was flooded with unverified videos and images showing a colossal ball of fire lighting up the night sky, with multiple explosions echoing across a lake located about 380 km west of Moscow.
The NASA satellites detected intense heat sources spread over approximately 14 square kilometers at the site, while earthquake monitoring stations registered tremors resembling a small earthquake in the vicinity.
The governor of the Tver region, Igor Rudenya, confirmed that Ukrainian drones were shot down, leading to a fire outbreak and subsequent evacuations.
