The president’s comments come in response to condemnation from Western diplomatic missions, who have suggested independent investigations into the violent events surrounding the upcoming polls. The abduction and murder of senior Chadema member Ali Mohamed Kibao have further heightened tensions, with concerns over disenfranchisement of citizens ahead of the elections.
While the US embassy calls for transparency in the investigations, Chadema leader Freeman Mbowe has requested the assistance of Britain’s Scotland Yard due to distrust in Tanzania’s law enforcement.
