Romania calls for ‘strong’ NATO reaction to Russian airspace violations

Romania Urges NATO Response to Russian Drones Violating Allied Airspace During Attacks on Ukraine

Romania has called for a robust and coordinated response by NATO to address Russian drones violating allied airspace during attacks against Ukraine. Speaking at a meeting of the Bucharest Nine (B9) format, Romanian Defense Minister Angel Tilvar emphasized the need to enforce rotational air defense and an integrated anti-missile model promptly.

The B9 states, which include Central and Eastern European members of NATO and the EU, expressed deep concern about repeated incursions of Russian drones and missiles into NATO airspace. These violations have been reported in countries such as Poland, Romania, Latvia, and Moldova.

In addition to discussing airspace security, the B9 meeting highlighted allied support for Ukraine to ensure the country’s Armed Forces have the necessary resources. Romania has been a steadfast supporter of Ukraine throughout the conflict, providing military aid and hosting training facilities for Ukrainian pilots.

With evolving threats in the Black Sea region, including cyber attacks and hybrid warfare, the call for a coordinated response underscores the importance of solidarity among allies. Support for Ukraine remains a focal point in the region’s efforts to address ongoing security challenges.
