The Nordic ambassadors from Denmark, Finland, Sweden, and Norway emphasized the importance of sustainable food production and international cooperation in addressing Nigeria’s food security challenges. They highlighted the issue of limited access to nutritious food in Nigeria despite vast land and heavy reliance on food imports. The ambassadors spoke at a Nordic food feast hosted by the Finnish Ambassador to Nigeria, Sanna Selin, in Abuja.
Danish Ambassador Jens Hansen stressed the need to increase food production to meet the demands of Nigeria’s growing population. He called for innovative solutions and collaboration between Nordic countries and Nigeria to enhance the country’s food and livestock sectors.
Finnish Ambassador Selin showcased Nordic countries’ commitment to environmental sustainability and animal welfare, including low antibiotic use in farming and promotion of plant-based meat alternatives. Swedish Ambassador Annika Hahn-Englund highlighted the historical ties between the Nordics and Africa, emphasizing Nigeria’s significance as a key partner.
Norwegian Ambassador Svein Baera reinforced the Nordic vision of sustainability, gender equality, and constructive dialogue for development and prosperity. The Nordic countries aim to become the most sustainable region globally through inclusive growth and cooperation.
