The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has called for a meeting with Tipra Motha leaders in New Delhi on September 20 to discuss the implementation of the tripartite agreement signed earlier this year. The agreement aims to address various issues faced by indigenous communities in Tripura, including land rights, cultural identity, and economic development.
Tipra Motha, a regional party that won 13 seats in the recent Assembly polls, had demanded a constitutional solution to the challenges faced by indigenous people in Tripura. The party eventually joined the BJP-led government after signing the agreement with the Centre and Tripura government.
The process was initially delayed as the Centre wanted insurgent groups NLFT and All Tripura Tiger Force to also sign agreements and renounce violence. However, with both groups recently signing settlements, the focus is now on implementing the promises made to indigenous communities in Tripura.
With Tripura now declared an insurgency-free state, the Centre is keen on resolving the issues highlighted by Tipra Motha and fulfilling the commitments made before the elections. This meeting marks a crucial step towards addressing the concerns of indigenous communities in Tripura.
