Turkish American Activist Killed by Israeli Soldiers During Peaceful Demonstration
Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, a 26-year-old Turkish American activist, was fatally shot by Israeli soldiers on Sept. 6 during a peaceful demonstration in the occupied West Bank. The official forensic autopsy report confirmed that the shot was fired from a great distance, causing a fatal wound to Eygi.
The report revealed that Eygi had one firearm bullet core entry wound on her body and no toxic substances were found in her blood. Her death was a result of fracture of the bones of her head, hemorrhage between the membranes of the brain, and brain tissue destruction due to firearm bullet injury.
Eygi, a human rights activist and volunteer of the International Solidarity Movement, was supporting Palestinians through peaceful means against the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories. Her tragic death has sparked international outrage, with US Vice President Kamala Harris calling the killing “unacceptable.”
Eygi’s body was laid to rest in her hometown in Turkey, where six metallic foreign objects were removed as evidence of a crime. The incident draws parallels to the death of US citizen Rachel Corrie in 2003, who was also a member of the same movement.
Our hearts go out to Eygi’s family and friends as they mourn the loss of a brave activist dedicated to advocating for justice and human rights.
