Hyderabad witnessed the immersion of over one lakh Lord Ganesh idols in various forms and sizes as the nine-day Ganesh Chaturthi festivities concluded in Telangana. Organizers of Ganesh pandals took to the streets in motor vehicles for the idol immersion, creating a festive atmosphere in the capital city.
More than 1,02,510 idols were immersed in lakes and ponds within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits. The famous 70 ft-tall Ganesh idol at Khairatabad was immersed in the Hussain Sagar lake, attracting thousands of devotees.
The auction of ‘laddus’ offered as ‘prasadam’ in the pandals added to the festive fervor, with the laddu at Balapur pandal fetching a staggering amount of Thirty lakh and one thousand rupees. Elaborate arrangements were made by the state government for the smooth conduct of idol immersion and processions, with Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy overseeing the proceedings.
The immersion process, supervised by DGP Jitender, was peaceful across the state, with about 20,000 police personnel involved in maintaining order. Traffic restrictions were in place for the smooth conduct of idol immersion, continuing till Wednesday morning.
