French rape victim ‘humiliated’ by claims of complicity

Gisèle Pelicot, the former wife of a French man accused of drugging her and enlisting strangers to rape her, spoke out during his trial, feeling humiliated by the defense’s accusations. Pelicot, 71, admitted that her ex-husband, Dominique Pelicot, sedated her so that he and others could assault her for nearly a decade.

She vehemently denied ever giving consent and expressed her outrage at defense lawyers trying to shift blame onto her, claiming she was complicit in the abuse. Pelicot stood firm, declaring that “rape is rape,” refuting any attempt to minimize the severity of the crime.

Despite facing attempts to discredit her in court, Pelicot remained resolute, demanding justice for the atrocities she endured. Her courage and determination shone through, signaling her strength as a survivor. The trial shed light on the horrors of her experience and the importance of standing up against such heinous acts.
