The educational sector in northwestern Syria is facing significant challenges with personnel and infrastructure. Public schools are struggling with shortages of supplies, lack of support, unpaid teachers, and inadequate resources. Despite efforts from authorities and organizations to improve education, the sector continues to face difficulties.
On the International Day to Protect Education from Attacks, it was reported that 170 schools have been targeted by the regime and Russia in the past five years. In 2024, 700 schools in Idlib were left without essential resources, affecting thousands of students and teachers.
Military escalation has hindered access to education services in northwestern Syria, with over one million school-age children out of school. However, initiatives like the Ataa Association for Humanitarian Relief are working to address learning difficulties by providing training to teachers and setting up support centers for students.
The ultimate goal of the project is to empower teachers to help students with difficulties within the classroom, rather than isolating them. Despite the challenges, efforts are being made to improve education in the region.
