The cruise industry is concerned about the new fee the Greek government plans to impose on cruise ports of call from 2025 onwards, potentially reaching up to 20 euros per person for popular destinations like Mykonos and Santorini.
Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) expressed its reservations in a statement, acknowledging the government’s goals of diversifying attractions and managing overcrowding on islands, while also urging Athens to consider the economic impact on cruise tourism.
CLIA suggested delaying the implementation of the fee until 2026 to account for the introduction of berth management systems in Santorini and Mykonos next year, emphasizing the importance of consultation with all stakeholders in the tourism industry.
