CEPO Takes Legal Action to Block Future Extensions of Transitional Period
The Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) has taken a bold step in response to the fourth extension of the transitional period, calling it a regrettable move by the parties that signed the 2018 peace agreement. In light of this, CEPO is initiating a legal process to prevent any further extensions beyond the expiration of the two-year extra time granted last week.
CEPO’s Executive Director, Edmund Yakani, emphasized the lack of genuine commitment from political leaders in transitioning the country from violence to peace. He highlighted the issue of trust deficit and the mismanagement of funds, accusing certain actors of profiting off the peace accord.
Yakani outlined CEPO’s legal initiatives, which include seeking a court ruling to prohibit future extensions, unify the forces to form a national army, create a constitution, conduct a population census, and kick-start the transitional justice process for timely General Elections in December 2026.
CEPO is also advocating for transparent funding mechanisms and urging citizens to join their National Trust for Peace campaign to address this diplomatic shame faced by the country. The organization is committed to holding the government accountable and ensuring genuine peace implementation.
