Russia claims to eliminate ‘Ukrainian agent’ planning defense executive’s murder
Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) announced the killing of a suspected Ukrainian military intelligence officer planning to assassinate a Russian defense industry executive. The FSB claimed the man was a Russian citizen involved in illegal explosive trafficking for Ukraine’s HUR military intelligence agency. The man was caught creating an improvised explosive device (IED) intended for a car bomb attack on a defense executive in the Sverdlovsk region. FSB agents fatally shot the man during a shootout as he tried to plant the IED in a hiding spot. The FSB released footage showing the man’s body in a wooded area with a handgun and components of the explosive in a garage. The FSB did not disclose the target’s identity, only mentioning him as a “senior employee of a defense company.” No response has been received from Kyiv regarding Russia’s accusations.

This incident highlights tensions between Russia and Ukraine, demonstrating the ongoing security threats faced by key figures in the defense industry.
