The North Korean Air Force is planning a substantial expansion of enrollment at the Kim Chaek Air Force University to train more aircraft maintenance technicians. This initiative aims to enhance the professionalism of equipment personnel in air force units. The proposal, sent by the Korean People’s Army Air and Anti-Air Force Headquarters to the KPA Party Committee, focuses on qualitative and quantitative improvements in the training of technical maintenance commanders.
The Air Force Party Committee believes that recent aircraft accidents are not just due to outdated airframes but also to maintenance issues and a lack of technical skills. To address this, they plan to intensify efforts to train technical maintenance personnel over the next three years.
The proposal includes establishing a training system at Kim Chaek Air Force University where outstanding graduates from civilian technical colleges are enrolled and directly trained as technical maintenance commanders. If approved, this will significantly increase the number of technical maintenance personnel over the next three years. The Air Force hopes that this advanced training will enhance the combat strength of the DPRK Air Force by improving the skills and professionalism of technical maintenance commanders.
