The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) is taking proactive measures to address the recurring issue of floods in the Niger Delta region. Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, announced plans to build six multi-purpose emergency shelters in Bayelsa, Delta, and Rivers states for Internally Displaced Persons. These shelters will provide essential amenities such as schools, hospitals, cafeterias, and police posts to support communities in times of distress.

Ogbuku highlighted the NDDC’s efforts to illuminate communities with solar-powered street lights as a means to combat criminal activity and promote peace in the region. Additionally, the Commission is set to launch the Holistic Opportunities Programme of Engagement (HOPE) and youth internship schemes to empower young people with entrepreneurial and skills enhancement opportunities.

The NDDC’s focus on technology and education includes distributing 45,000 U-Lesson tablets to schools across the region. Ogbuku also mentioned completed projects like roads, bridges, and electricity substations that have made significant impacts in the nine states of the Niger Delta.
